day watching

day watching each slipping
gracefully along
nearly asleep walking
blinking then away

gone drifting
one moment droplets
in life’s stream, drip passing
to clear dark cool river

flowing steady beyond
lake to locks
becoming roll folding
soft blue oceans

whispers fog again
globe breathing
circling with fishes
gather mists

clouds building grey darker
all above sailing
over birds
on wings of winds

gradually reformed
now droplets
fall again lovely
light rain

This is a poem I can read again and again, carefully, beautifully constructed, evoking emotions I can't easily define- the mark of an excellent poem. Every time I read it, I discover something new, lulled and stimulated by its images, language, and ideas. The opening stanza is delicate and amazing; and the layered concept in your poem, the cycle of water, representing life, wonderfully expressed.

With the right illustrator, I think this poem would make a great children's book. ~ Annie

thanks, Annie.

i had fun with this and found something reminiscent of the beat poets and minimalism here in fractured lines that i enjoyed following along, then finally returning to solid ground with - lovely light rain.
