moonlight

moonlight on my hand
woke me up,
this is good
if you must be woken in the night

better moonlight through the window
than waking from
the distant squeaking of
truck brakes

though being near the lake
i could always pretend
the squeaks
are the calls of mating seagulls

moonlight is the way to be woken certainly, I like the transformation of the truck brakes to seagulls...

thank you, C.G.
my wife couldn’t believe it, but it happened two nights in a row when the moon came around just so and shown through the window. The rest of the poem came out of where we live in Ohio: trucks and seagulls. Usually it’s trains and geese too, but they didn’t make the cut this time.
