poetry - jack sender - all of my life
First thing I see our rabbit, Little, on the lawn, front and center
i turn my head and she is gone.
no telling where she went
her trail has disappeared
quick as a fawn and with no movement,
not even a blur. sure it was her.
so i walked the driveway three times,
cold it is. Okay. This day is underway.
it was her
Going to the clinic for physical therapy
Then Galucci’s Italian market on Euclid avenue
Big doings, something to do.
Woke at 11, 2, 3,4 up at 6. Then got moving.
Way back early man saw the change of seasons.
I hear it on the radio.
We have entered fall.
gun metal grey is the morning sky today.
nearly shining smooth as the barrel of an old gun.
the yard leaves shimmer.
looking for Little, the rabbit.
talked with Alberto in Rome. my old friend.
he thinks of Putin and the war.
m drove us to Aldi’s where I see people are more and heavier.
Thursday night football tonight. Cleveland vs Steelers.
Chubb plays.
Still grey, but Nick Chubb plays.
plants have had their high point. flowered, bloomed,
drying out, they’re done.
animals changed their habits.not here now, on the run.
and mornings hold a different silence; it’s the cold I feel.
and my shorts and and t-shirts have seen their day.
so long boys, i’m with you in my heart.
so swimming didn’t happen … can you believe it?
Summer? my tears are falling cause they’re taking you away.

until 9:40 in the morning
Lisbon Portugal had an earthquake.
how large a shake can be?
candles flickered in Ireland.
can you imagine?
definitely the tremor drew attention.
a good lady who kept up her efforts;
served well for her life time.
i‘m happy to have glimpsed her
in San Francisco and again in Rome.

yes it’s here, sleeping near
under the pine tree by my window.
ready for flight and out of sight.
