time for fewer customers

i have to guess the best time to go.

The stain on the drive was left by the worker’s truck.

We keep this place looking good.

Now she says the spot is a water stain.

I’m working quietly here, causing no damage.

When walking in the rain I’m dressed for it.

Later I’ll say “why didn’t I tell this or that.”

At least we usually have good weather.

Fall away May

running to the water’s edge

where bushes form a hedge.

cast away your hook

into the shimmering, babbling brook.

Memorial day

 A tough day, remembering wars.

Celebrating those who perished.

Come on, humans, get along.

How could we have come up with wars?

If you need contests

Why not battle over cooking the best food

and playing the best music.

Take naps when you’re tired and look at the stars at night.

And sports and card games and bowling.

And walking and swimming contests.

Chess and baseball. Reading books.

Story telling and poetry. Easy does it.

Last night thoughts rose bright

It occurred what to note.

While dreaming under starlight.

The melody of an old tune I heard on the radio had a name.

I should have written it out.

So simple I though I would have remembered.

Another day, another hour.

It went up in a swirl of dream.

Was it one dream or many? I don’t remember.

Nevertheless I woke up empty minded.

The simple song had slipped by me.

You know I’ve done this before.

I think, but don’t remember.

tall robin

Holiday weekend. Summer day

First, neighbor gee-gee walks by walking better.

Then a lawn care truck; always popular somewhere nearby.

No one else walking, only he-gee and a tall robin.

It’s still; more so since they tore down the mill.

I miss the train at the other place.

Where you’d hear the lonesome whistle blow.

Here at least robin has followed us over.

Now we make do without the lake.

It’s all give and rake.

I meant hive and take but with all these trees

There has to be a rake in it.

Wind off the week

 Kind principles lead well.

Keeping tuned and basic.

Skys blue are heavenly.

You lead, I’ll follow.

on the path through the woods

we will find our way.

Unleashing all we should

making this our day.

Ted and ali’s

An hour drive distant.

Was only thirty minutes from Norwhere.

 In Shelby we had breakfast.

Today the place was packed and noisy.

A whole lot of talking going on.

I asked Ali if rhe ceiling had been changed.

She said it was the same for eighty years.

I didn’t remember the place that noisy.

 but didn’t tell her that.

M. Thought the portions were small

And the quality down.

I liked it all

Including shredded, fried potatoes.

it rained last night while I dreamed,

some time before this morning.

now the ground is wet yet quickly drying.

the sky is totally cloudy.

we spent good hours in California.

talked, ate, and watched baseball on TV.

got reacquainted with some Cleveland players.

Closing up

 We’ve  had a swell time.

A fine margin of enjoyment.

If we asked around there’s be a large

consensus of practical agreement.

Good time went around.

we shared it.

Out to the desert

Four and a half hours out from Temecula.

72 miles from the Mexican border.

Sunny and warm. Far off we could

see  Snow on the mountains.

We got to Toby’s plant and he showed us around.

The operation is near completion.

Quite a well-made beautiful place.

He created an impressive plant.

All the California wonderful on a Saturday

Okay weekend for all.

Spin out a tail got goodness.

Had Mexican food last eve.

Four of six ordered number seven:

Chilirelleno and cheese enchilada

And a good time was had by all.

I’d take another whack to do better.

Good sun, good people,

Good days in C A.

Thanks to all.

Little better

 How to sleep with practice.

When it is time wake and shower.

Night is wrapped, so are we and you where you are.

Gather for what’s to do.

Cleaned and packed, not for Rome.

This is California for which we’re bound.

Not driving the world,

Two flights in a day.  A quick way.

I’ll read across, and recall friends.

They are my life and reasons for the west.

Over thirty years we had beginnings and ends.

No doubt about it, some moments were best.

costa rica

What a big deal

my friend bill is in Costa Rica

he retired and lives there

we’re in touch.

he has invited me to visit.

he said he’d help coming and going.

what a beautiful jungle-laden place.

i’d be happy to look at it again.

good people, good food, good water.

a colorful dream.

sleep amid the calls of jungle creatures.

how afraid am i to leave the world i know?

give me a good load of stars at night.

Daylight

 a slender silver charm

dream into the edge of morning.

hello day. we love you.

haunt me with your Carolina moon.

Saturday, May 13, 2023

normal day

there will be well into seventies temperatures.

bushes are loaded, well hanging in damp.

no birds, no squirrels, a black cat has been chased away.

eight a.m.  sounds lonely and pure.

if I I had my old diesel boat Snort

i’d run it now to hear it chug. Thug, clung.

soft and regular. s slow nod. like buttermilk.

my ferry on the bay.

i’ll write a few lines,

read some of today’s book.

note some things we did.

look ahead toward our next adventure.

Weather is holding

A whisper tells all there is.

I heard her first thing talking to them.

I casually asked is anyone is out there.

I should have known by her talking to them in a voice of glee

Back again, two of them. They live here.

We’re not surprised we’re happy.

those monkey rabbits keep us busy.

I is like reading the 1919 book of Benjamin Franklin.

Keeps me busy. Also, must consider:

How to we protect those dears?

These critters to whom we grow attached.

Rain is mentioned without materializing.

Eyes to the sky.

At least we know why.

Starting over

Powdery white blue sky.

Sun shines in the sound of quiet.

Will be the warmest day we’ve had.

Eighty degrees and I’m glad.

Little, our favorite rabbit, is back one day after misery.

Boyfriend bunny came by also.

The old ranch is riding a return to normal.

Ain’t she sweet, just a-walking down the street.

Have to balance out the days,

Keep them lined up until we’re through.

Must be many ways

To erase the blues

wore my jacket and barret

To fight the cool, although they say

It will turn to a summer day.

If it can make it I’ll hurray.

talked to neighbors Ge Gee and Rod this a.m.

walking to town is where they’re bound.

going for another injection.

yipe - at four we’re lining up for another round.

Music Milton auger, Jack yellen, lyrics - ain’t she sweet

Chapter end

Must have been the black cat.

All the babies were killed.

There is no rabbit here this morning.

The long bunny story has ended.

Our friends, our familiarity is torn out.

Meridith removed the bodies that were spread around.

It was brutal.  What a sad ending for the mother bunny.

and for us. We join in the heartache.

How is our bunny grieving?

So unfair for the rabbits.

We will miss them all.

We do miss them all.
