Chicago radio news
some early morning
a quarter hour recap of
weather, traffic and murders

woman caught a stray bullet in the neck
two cousins 17 and 19 both in college
no known reason why it should happen
fifteen youths killed a fine student

and on, and on, dog’s blood
so sorry, brutal cruel, shame
as it goes on, many weep
a nation turns it’s head to sleep

I rarely read or listen to the news anymore; not to hide my head in the sand, but after so many years of hearing about brutality I need to take a break from what I can't understand. I listened to the evening news recently, and I felt bombarded. It's exactly that- weather, traffic and murders, robbery, and/or child abuse. I don't know what the answer is, other than more love in the home, beginning with infancy.
