the good news is

two frogs set to winter here.
watched one, for sure, grow from little.
fish are sleeping deeper now.
while above, leaves keep blowing

and i scoop ‘em out of the pond
and wade the yard through red and orange.
as trees are changing differently,
seems definitely an unusual year

that will result, you know,
in the same affect;
for waiting around the corner,
coming soon, is winter.

I love the smallness of this poem (which has a big impact, actually). The idea that you watched a frog grow up is oddly touching---I once saw baby birds growing up and flying away on my windowsill.

It was a big deal to see the small thumb size froglette rapidly grow during the summer, not leave in July with the three or four other grownups who moved - probably to the big pond down the street. Instead he stayed in his home pond to become a full size frog now this fall. he'll winter here with his friend. for frogs, home ponds, where they were born, are important.

I love the lines in this poem: wade the yard through red and orange... Visually, I see the frogs and the pond and the leaves- and it makes me think of the frogs and toads that used to live in the yard where I grew up, and got caught in the filter for the swimming pool- but we rescued them and set them free. Weather does seem to be changing lately. It's good to notice it. Reading your poems lately has reminded me of the importance of stillness and attention to detail.
